WIRELESS ETHERNET
CONNECTIVITY (WLAN)
|
 |
|
Wireless solutions find all their interest in environment where
wired network cabling operation is difficult (restricted access,
equipments often moved from a place to another, connection of equipments
from any place, connection of equipments when no cables, no plugs
are available ...) or prohibitively expensive.
Customers (point of sales, medical instrumentation, industrial automation,
security systems, building automation) can right now rely on this
new technology to build safe wireless network applications while
freeing themselves from wiring constraints and while taking advantage
of a full electrical isolation, no more cables cut failures, maintenance
and installation reduced costs ...
ACKSYS's offer (Wireless Ethernet IEEE 802.11b) is particularly
well suited to these applications needs by making possible to :
Design wireless systems (eg: robot, overhead crane, display ...)
Turn wired systems into wireless (eg: robot, overhead crane ...)
Monitor display & signaling systems (eg: stations, airports,
hotels, exhibitions ...)
Use wireless telemetering, measurements and administration equipments
Connect mobile terminals for quality and security monitoring applications
Connect security and access control devices to the wireless network
Install equipments when cabling operation is not possible or difficult
Connection of serial equipments in hazardous & potentially explosive
area
Build a high speed full-duplex wireless serial link between two
equipments
WL-COMETH relies on the
wireless 2.4 Ghz Ethernet IEEE 802.11b standard and features an
RS232/RS422/RS485 serial interface, a 11 Mbps Ethernet data rate
which is automatically reduced (auto-fallback system) to 5.5, 2
and 1 Mbps depending to signal qualité and in order to adapt
itself as best as possible to the environment constraints.
Communication security and confidentiality is achieved by 4 independent
64/128 WEP "Wired Equivalent Privacy" keys (alphanumerical
or hexadecimal) plus a TCP/IP address filtering mechanism.
WL-COMETH uses that same
IP technology used in other COMETH
products and enables to access to remote radio serial devices exactly
as local wired serial devices directly connected to the PC through
a cable.
Tunnel mode enables to connect two serial equipments through the
network in a transparent way regardless of the Protocolused (MODBUS
ASCII, MODBUS PLUS, MODBUS RTU, UNITELWAY, DF1 ...) while point
to point mode (Ad oc) do the same function without the network and
thus without any access point, radio communication occurs between
the two virtually connected serial devices, then, it is possible
to create a radio bridge between two serial equipments.
WL-COMETH comes with omnidirectional
2dBi built-in antennas (standard coverage), an external higher gain
antenna can be connected instead for long distance communications
(SMA connector).
Because industrial Ethernet wireless actual networks are not WiFi
compliant, there is not interoperability between radio vendors.
Central and remote sites must use same brand of equipments.
WL-COMETH authorizes a total
interoperability with all the equipments compliant with the IEEE
standard 802.11b, it's also possible to replace a full-duplex wired
serial link with two radio WL-COMETH.
The MODBUS/TCP Protocolsupport permits to connect a serial MODBUS
equipment to the radio Ethernet network in order to communicate
with supervisors or softwares using the MODBUS/TCP Protocol.
